Douglas Gauthier is the principal of Gauthier Architects. He is a New York-based architect whose practice is rooted in building, teaching, and research. Using an expressive geometry able to negotiate the changing demands and necessities of each individual project, Gauthier seeks to engage the nuances of a culture that is in near-constant flux.

Ingenuity, imagination, and a non-hierarchical system of order allow the way buildings operate to be privileged over a prescriptive aesthetic. It is this flexibility that generates spaces that are overlapping and intertwining; spaces that are able to manage the shift and turbulence of culture. And it is this flexibility that makes each project individual and responsive to specific client needs and constraints.

Gauthier Architects' current projects include the BURST house, to be installed at The Museum of Modern Art this summer, a non-profit theater on the edge of SoHo, and a multi-level, multi-generational home in the Northeastern United States. Together with his office practice, Douglas Gauthier actively teaches, lectures, and serves on various juries and panels.
